A couple of months ago I was asked if I might like to review some books that Egmont have released in time for Christmas. As Little Man is starting to really get into books right now (he's 14 months old) I said a very hasty and happy "YES".
We were provided with the following three books:
The stories are all very sweet and perfect for sharing with children slightly older than Little Man. In Snowy Tracks, the trains are all warned to be careful while there is snow on the ground, but Gordon doesn't listen and trouble ensues. In The Last Snowball, Rosie and friends try to recreate the fun of the snow for Big Bear who slept through the winter. And in Mr Men Meet Father Christmas, Little Miss Tiny wishes she could meet Father Christmas and her wish comes true!
However, despite Little Man being a tad too young to follow the stories this year, he has still found great pleasure in looking at these books. He loves sitting and looking at the pictures and turning the pages, and seems to especially love the Everything's Rosie book as he recognises the characters from watching them on the TV.
I am a firm believer in that it is never too early to introduce books to a child and so by providing Little Man with books that are just a little bit older than the ones we currently let him use on a daily basis (i.e. books with thick card pages) he has had the chance to explore the feel of thinner paper pages and look at the style and combination of words and pictures that are in the kind of books he will soon learn to enjoy.
I am sure by next Christmas he will be wanting to hear the stories themselves, however for now we have had great fun looking at the pictures over and over again.
I would highly recommend these sweet little books for any child who loves stories, as it is so nice to have a selection of seasonal books for your little ones to read and enjoy. They are marked at £2.99 each, so would make great little stocking fillers or a gift for Advent as an alternative to a chocolate advent calendar (or even in addition to one!)
