Week 3 was blighted by one very poorly Little Man. It started on Wednesday 16th with a slight cough, developed on Thursday into what started to sound like a chesty cough and ended up sounding like a bark, and was diagnosed on Friday 18th as croup.
TJ was away Wednesday - Friday, but thankfully my mum was staying with us. It was horrible seeing Little Man go downhill so quickly, and I was mightily glad TJ was home Friday night as Little Man's temperature shot up to 39 degrees and even after paracetamol, being stripped down to his nappy and wiped with a cool cloth, and turning the heating off and opening the window (bearing in mind it snowed that day!), it still hovered around 38 degrees.
Saturday and Sunday the cough started to sound more chesty and less like a bark, and his nose and eyes began to stream. I couldn't believe how much mucus the boy was producing and we began to become even more concerned when he refused to eat anything (and he is usually such a good eater). We had an appointment booked with the doctor for Monday morning, so we waited it out (as his temperature was normal over the weekend and he was still drinking plenty).
Monday morning came along with 4 inches of snow. TJ was working, so Little Man and I braved the snow and walked to the surgery (well I walked, he was all wrapped up nice and warm in his pushchair). The doctor took one look in his mouth and pronounced that he now had tonsilitis. So penicillin was prescribed and I brought him home for plenty of cuddles.
He is still not quite right (but finished his antibiotics yesterday). He is much chirpier and eating, but he still looks pasty, still "zones out" once in a while, and is just not his usual self. We are watching him closely for any signs of relapse, but hoping that this is just the tail end of exhaustion from two lots of illness in one short week!
So, here are our photos from the eventful week...
The day before it all kicked off, I walked down the drive to work and saw the sun shining between the trees and over the snow. It was beautiful.
Wednesday morning Little Man was still quite perky and "symptomless". We had great fun playing with empty boxes.
This is a "cheat" as I actually took this photo on 16th, but I was so busy on 17th that I didn't think to take a photo. So I am cheating today as I wanted to share our "nappy stash" because we have recently been building this up again and so there will be photos of new cloth nappies coming soon!
Little Man was very poorly Friday night! (This is the first of several "poorly boy" shots).
Napping on the sofa...
Whoops! I forgot to take a photo again... but I had a good excuse!
Walking through the snow shower to see the doctor.
